Data Center
FAEIS, the Food and Agricultural Education Information System, collects higher education data for the life, food, veterinary, human, natural resource, and agricultural sciences. This data is collected annually from institutions that have colleges of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and/or Family and Consumer/Human Sciences.
The data that FAEIS collects is available for public use. You can download data from this page or you can submit a data request. If you’d like to request data, or for assistance with anything on this page, email the FAEIS HelpDesk at faeis@vt.edu or call 540-231-4941. Data requests are usually completed within two weeks. Some questions that FAEIS data has helped answer in the past are the following:
- How many bachelors degrees were awarded last year for Family and Consumer Sciences Education programs?
- What are the enrollment trends in the natural resources field for institutions that are members the National Association of University Forest Resource Programs (NAUFRP)?
- Which institutions have a college of agriculture where the enrollment is greater than 4,000 students?
- What is the gender ratio of undergraduate students enrolled in an Animal Sciences program?

Institutions surveyed by FAEIS – This is the list of institutions that FAEIS seeks data from. These institutions offer programs that fall within the FAEIS purview. This file contains the institution name, the institution code, and flags that describe the institution’s characteristics and memberships. To download once you have viewed it, click on the excel logo on the top right hand corner of the screen.

CIP codes most commonly reported to FAEIS – All data that is reported to FAEIS must be organized by Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) codes. CIP codes area taxonomic scheme used to identify and track educational programs. They are defined by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). You can view the official list of CIP codes and definitions from NCES CIP website. This file contains the most common CIP codes that are reported to FAEIS. They are categorized into program areas and academic areas. To download once you have viewed it, click on the excel logo on the top right hand corner of the screen.

Enrollment Data – This excel file contains the enrollment data for all institutions surveyed by FAEIS. The enrollment headcounts are for programs in the FAEIS purview. It is not a census survey of the institutions. Each row in the data file represents the total number of students enrolled in that specific program with the defined characteristics. For example, a single row would display the total number of Hispanic male students enrolled in a masters Agricultural Applied Economics (CIP Code 01.0109) program in 2016 at Virginia Tech. A csv version of the enrollment file is also available, along with a pdf of the enrollment variable definitions.

Degrees Awarded Data – This excel file contains the degrees awarded data for all institutions surveyed by FAEIS. The data is for programs in the FAEIS purview. It is not a census survey of the institutions. Each row in the data file represents the total number of degrees awarded in that specific program with the defined characteristics. For example, a single row would display the total number of Hispanic male students who received in a masters Agricultural Applied Economics (CIP Code 01.0109) program in 2016 at Virginia Tech. A csv version of the degrees awarded file is also available, along with a pdf of the degrees awarded variable definitions.

Transfer Data – This excel file contains the transfer data for all institutions surveyed by FAEIS. The data is for programs in the FAEIS purview. It is not a census survey of the institutions. Each row in the data file represents the total number of students who transferred from a two-year institutions to a four-year institution into a specific program with the defined characteristics. For example, a single row would display the total number of Hispanic male students from a two-year institution who transferred into Agricultural Applied Economics (CIP Code 01.0109) program in 2016 at Virginia Tech, which is a four-year institution. A csv version of the transfer file is also available, along with a pdf of the transfer variable definitions.

Placement Data – This excel file contains the placement data for all institutions surveyed by FAEIS. The data is for programs in the FAEIS purview. It is not a census survey of the institutions. Each row in the data file represents the total number of graduates from a program who were placed in the specified sector or occupational group. A csv version of the placement file is also available, along with a pdf of the placement variable definitions.

Faculty Data – Faculty data reports are available upon request. You can view the 2018 faculty average monthly salary by institution, rank, and gender.

FAEIS Report Builder – The report builder allows for parameters (such as: institution, college type, partner organization, degree level, academic area, discipline (CIP code), gender, ethnicity) to be set to create custom reports. You must request an account to use the report builder.
